Andreas declares candidacy for Madison County Clerk

Linda Andreas announces her candidacy for Madison County Clerk as a Republican.
EDWARDSVILLE – For Linda Andreas, civic responsibility is more than just words.
A desire to make a difference led Andreas, a Maryville resident, to declare her candidacy for Madison County Clerk as a Republican Friday at the Madison County Administration Building.
“I believe in honesty and integrity and I believe in civic involvement,” said Andreas, who has not previously held a political office.
“Our civic responsibilities are so important, and I encourage other people to participate more than just voting. It takes people to be involved and we’ve kind of lost our civics, but I would love to see that restored.”
The current Madison County Clerk, Debbie Ming-Mendoza, has announced she will seek a third term in 2022. Ming-Mendoza, a Democrat, took over as clerk in 2012.
Andreas, meanwhile, feels that her varied background will be a plus in her bid to become the new county clerk.
“I was a military wife for 21 years and I was raised in Illinois. I’ve been here pretty wife my entire life other than my military time and I love all of Illinois,” Andreas said. “I’ve been an educator, a nurse and an entrepreneur.”
Andreas, who said she plans to “lead by example,” cited several factors in her decision to run for office.
